A container made of cardboard, corrugated board or similar lightweight semi-rigid sheet material, provided with a removable tear strip (10) for opening it, and formed with a line of weakness which defines a releasable portion of the sheet material (17) which may be lifted to start removal of the tear strip. The line of weakness (13) has a central portion (14) which extends across the tear strip to define an end of the same, and outwardly of the edges of the tear strip on opposite sides thereof, and two smoothly curved lateral portions (15, 16) each extending in the same direction lengthwise of the tear strip, from a respective end of the said central portion, inwardly across the adjacent edge of the tear strip at (18) and then outwardly across such edge at (19) to terminate at (20) which is a substantial distance outside of such edge. This arrangement enables the tear strip (10) to be clearly picked up by the releasable portion (17) even if the releasable portion is offset from its ideal position due to manufacturing inaccuracies.
