<p>A taphole assembly (10) for a vessel (12) containing a molten solid. The assembly (10) is comprised of a tubular element (40) formed of a refractory material. The tubular element (40) has a continuous passage (52) extending therethrough along a first axis. A socket block (80) formed of a plurality of mating refractory components (94, 96) is provided to hold the tubular element (40). The socket block (80) has a first convex cylindrical surface on one side thereof and a second convex cylindrical surface on an opposite side thereof. The first and second cylindrical surfaces are defined about a second axis extending through the socket block (80). The socket block (80) has an inner cavity (46) dimensioned to receive and to capture the tubular element (40). A first rectangular saddle block (160) has a first concave recess formed therein that is dimensioned to match and to receive the first convex surface on the socket block (80). A second rectangular saddle block (170) has a second concave recess formed therein that is dimensioned to match and to receive said second convex surface on the socket block (80).</p> |
