The invented hydrophilic varnish for protecting surfaces consists of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate homopolymer or 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate copolymer with methacrylic or acrylic acid in weight ratio ranging from 99 : 1 to 80 : 20 that is dissolved in a mixture containing lower alcohols containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and water up to the amount of 60 percent by weight, whereby the amount of the homopolymer and/or copolymer is at the most 22 percent by weight. The hydrophilic varnish is prepared in such a manner that 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate or a mixture of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate with methacrylic or acrylic acid in weight ratio ranging from 99 : 1 to 80 : 20 in aqueous (Ci1-Ci4)alcohol solution and containing up to 60 percent by weight water is brought for a period of at least one day into spontaneous polymerization by the action of an oxidative reducing system, particularly a system of sodium pyrosulfide/diammonium diperoxodisulfate. The invented hydrophilic varnish is used particularly for protecting building materials, objects and walls from contamination, particularly from contamination with undesired graffiti's and for protection against contamination of military and civil objects and hardware with warfare chemical and radioactive agents.
|
