A die head for extruding a seal profile directly on to a support such as the border of a vehicle windscreen is suspended from a support moved automatically to follow the seal path and has a trailing outlet which can be partly obscured by an adjacent sliding plate moved by an independently controlled piston system. The movement of the plate enables parts of the overall profile pattern, e.g. an ancillary lateral sealing lip or the sides of a basic channel profile to be eliminated from those parts of the peripheral seal where they are not required and cannot be accommodated.
