Apparatus for automatically rotating a visual display unit or a display screen 2 in accordance with the presence of one or more viewers comprises a body temperature sensing unit 10 for sensing the presence of a viewer. The body temperature sensing unit 10 employs an infrared light radiated from the front surface of the visual display unit 2. The output signal from the sensing unit 10 is sent to a discrimination unit 31, which determines an angular range within which the body temperature is sensed, and in particular, if several viewers are present, determines an angular range based on the outermost viewers of the group. This angular range is compared with a range value generated by a range value setting unit 33, and if the angular range sensed by the sensing unit 10 is greater than the value from the setting unit 33, then drive instructions are sent by the controller 34 to a driving unit 60, in order to rotate the VDU so that its orientation is optimised for the viewing group. In particular, the rotation of the VDU is based on the centre of the angular range value. |
