Carboxymethyl cellulose fiber, process of its preparation and absorption article in which the fiber is comprised

The invented carboxymethyl cellulose fiber having substitution degree at least 0.1 of the carboxymethyl group per one glucose unit is produced by carboxymethylation of cellulose fiber spun from a solvent and its absorption capability is at least 8g of 0.9 percent brine solution per 1 g of fiber when measured by fee swelling method and its toughness is at least 10 cN/tex. This fiber is prepared by bringing a cellulose fiber in contact with an alkali metal hydroxide and a monochloroacetic reactant being selected from a group comprising monochloroacetic acid and salts thereof, whereby the cellulose fiber is represented by a cellulose fiber produced by spinning from a solvent. In the present invention there is also described an absorption article for personal hygiene and being formed by a layer consisting of a mixture of the carboxy methyl fiber and at least one another textile fiber, whereby said layer contains 10 to 50 percent by weight of the above described carboxymethyl fiber.
