Improvements relating to fluid pressure oscillators

A fluid pulse generator consists of a tuning fork 10 maintained in vibration by fluid pressure and gating a fluid pressure supply to produce the required pulses. The fork is maintained in oscillation by fluid from a nozzle 16 offset slightly from an opening 12 in one tine 10a. The other tine 10b carries a member 18 having a slot 20 lying between conduits 21 and 22 when the fork is at rest. Movement of this tine periodically gates the flow of fluid from conduit 21 to conduit 22, thus producing timed pulses. These are amplified by a bi-stable switch 24 producing pulses alternately in conduits 27 and 28. A delay 36-1 ensures a slight overlap in the pulses applied to an AND gate 34, the output of which thus consists of short pulses, e.g. of one millisecond at a frequency of one hundred per second. A switch 24-1 produces amplified pulses at T1. Further switches and delays will produce delayed pulses at T2 and T3. In a modification the conduit 16 is inclined relative to the opening 12 in the tine 10a. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, fluid from one of the output conduits 76, 78 of a bi-stable switch 70 acts on the tine 10b. Movement of this causes corresponding movement of the other tine which cuts off the flow of air at one of two orifices 59, 60 thus changing the flow in conduits 62, 64 and switching the output from the switch 70. The outputs from the switch 70 may also be used to operate further logical devices. In a further embodiment one of the tines of the tuning fork vibrates between two nozzles, the conduits to which can be adjusted in length to provide a resonant system. Various other systems are also described, one using a fluid Helmholtz resonator to provide the activation of the fork.
