A locking bar arrangement for mounting on an end face of a window or door having a groove therein, comprises at least one locking bar (2a, 2b). Each locking bar (2a, 2b) comprises a force transmitting section (3) for transmitting force from a mechanism (1), and a bolt section (4) coupled to the force transmitting section (3). One section moves in a first plane inside the groove in the frame and the other section moves in a second plane located above the first plane, such that the ends of the two sections (3,4) of the locking bar overlap. Means are provided to adjustably couple the two sections of the locking bar to vary the length of the locking bar.
