PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve mountability in a vehicle by shortening an axial length, in an automatic transmission for the vehicle of gear constitution attaining a 6-speed shift. SOLUTION: An automatic transmission is provided with a planetary gear set G having four speed change elements S2, S3, C2(C3), R3(R2), speed reducing planetary gear G1, two brakes B-1, B-2, and three clutches C-1, C-2, C-3, around an input shaft 11. A small diametric friction member 53 of the small capacity clutch C-2 inputting rotation of the input shaft directly to the planetary gear set is arranged in an internal peripheral side adjacently arranging large diametric friction members 63, 73 of both the large capacity clutches inputting deceleration rotation to the planetary gear set, and the three friction members are intensively arranged.
