PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition which gives a coating excellent in chemical resistance and gloss by combining a water-dispersible polyisocyanate with a high-Tg aqueous vinyl polymer latex stabilized with a polyol emulsifier containing acid groups neutralized with a reactive amine and specifying the NCO/OH ratio. SOLUTION: This composition comprises a water-dispersible polyisocyanate (A), an aqueous vinyl polymer latex (B) which is stabilized and crosslinked with a polyol emulsifier containing at least one polyol containing acid groups neutralized with at least one reactive amine and preferably having a number average mol.wt. of 800-2,000, a hydroxyl value of 45-100, and an acid value of 40-70, does not substantially have an OH or COOH functionality, and has a Tg of about 50 deg.C or higher, and optionally a polyhydric alcohol (C) in an equivalent ratio of NCO/OH of (0.5/1)-(5/1). Preferably, the aqueous vinyl polymer latex is one based on methyl methacrylate and hexanediol diacrylate.
