PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject emulsifier capable of making emulsion polymerization stability better and obtaining coating films having excellently improved water resistance, adhesiveness, heat tolerance and weathering resistance from the emulsion by composing it of a specified compound. SOLUTION: This emulsifier is obtained by composing it of a compound represented by the formula R1 and R2 are each a 1-20C alkyl, an alkenyl or H except that both of R1 and R2 are H; R3 is H or an allyl; A is a (substituted) 2-4C alkylene; (n) is 1-200, if (n)>=2, (AO)n may be a homopolymer consisting of recurring units (AO)-(AO)-(AO), a block polymer or random polymer consisting of at least two kinds of recurring units (A1O)n1-(A2O)n2 [A1 and A2 are each a different substituent A; (n1)+(n2)+......=(n)]}.
