PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a temperature rising phenomenon of a paper non-passing part without taking time for the rising of temperature. SOLUTION: The rising of the temperature by the heater 1 of a heat roller 2 is judged, and a solenoid 11a is turned off at the time of the rising of the temperature, and a soaking cylinder 10a is maintained in a state where it is separated from the surface of the heat roller 2. When the maximum size of a material to be recorded 4 used by a fixing device 40 is an A3 size, the solenoid 11a is turned off at the time of passing the material to be recorded (4) having a width same as that of the paper of the A3 size such as the paper of an A4 size set in a longitudinal direction, and the soaking cylinder 10a is separated from the surface of the heat roller 2, so that fixing processing is executed. On the other hand, the solenoid 11a is turned on at the time of passing the material to be recorded (4) having a width smaller than that of the paper of the A3 size, the soaking cylinder 10a is brought into press-contact with the surface of the heat roller 2, so that the fixing processing is executed.
