PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of efficiently storing and executing a program. SOLUTION: This printer 100 comprises a memory 108, an interface controller 106, a formatter 102 (a compression releasing mechanism, a cache and processor). A ROM 108 stores a program in a compressed form. The interface controller 106 receives input data from a computer. The formatter 102 is connected to the ROM 108 and interface controller 106 and determines an image in accordance with the input data. The formatter 102 receives at least a part of the program from the ROM 108 and extracts the compressed part and executes the instructions. The cache receives the instructions and executes the instructions, then determines the image. A printing engine prints the image along the determination of the formatter 102.
