PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To augment the strength of junction between the same or different kinds of members without affecting appearance at all by combining metallic plates with light wood of low strength. SOLUTION: A piece of metal-reinforced wood X is bonded in place by inserting metallic plates (tie plates) 3 into grooves (sawed grooves) 2 formed in a pair on one or opposite surfaces of a square timber 1 along a longitudinal direction. The metallic plate 3 of the piece of metal-reinforced wood X and a connecting fitting 5 are coupled or secured together via an engagement member 6 and the piece of metal-reinforced wood X is connected (joined) to another piece of metal-reinforced wood X or other member to be joined. For the construction of, e.g. a door W, a hinge 5 is interposed between a side plate S and the end face of the door W which approach each other when the door W is closed, and wood screws 6 are driven into a side plate core XS(X) and the metallic plate 3 in a door core XW (X) and tightly fastened to the hinge 5 to connect (join) the side plate core XS (X) with the door core XW(X).
