PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of components used to switch between the learning function and the normal function of the infrared remote controller provided with the learning function. SOLUTION: A learning function where infrared data sent to control an electric apparatus such as a television receiver are received by an infrared ray receiving element 19 of a remote control operation section 10 driven by a battery 11 and stored in a memory 20 or a normal function where an infrared emission element 18 transmits the stored infrared data to control the electric apparatus is selected under the control of changeover means 21, 22 that receive the output of a polarity detection circuit 16 which detects the polarity of the battery 11.
