PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a display device that is small in size and also small in power consumption of a light source. SOLUTION: The display device is provided with a cylindrical rotor 2 that rotates including a chip type light emitting diode 1 and that possesses a light- transmitting slit-like opening on the side, a motor 3 for rotating the cylindrical rotor 2, a synchronizing means such as a photodetector 6 or the like that synchronizes the rotation of the position of the opening with the adjustment of the luminance of the chip type LED 1, and a control means for making the chip type LED 1 emit light at a prescribed position of the opening.
