PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locking device for a vessel cover, by which the damage of an engaging piece is prevented, the reliability of locking and release is improved, the misunderstanding of a user regarding a cover-open state and a cover-closing-locking state is avoided and various troubles resulting from the misunderstanding is solved. SOLUTION: A vessel has the cover 2 opening and closing the opening section of a box body 1. A horizontal shaft 41 parallel with the side face of the vessel is installed on at least one of both opposed side faces of the opening section of the box body 1, and a rib 21 with a groove 21 engaged with the horizontal shaft 41 at the time of cover closing is mounted on a side face on the cover 2 side oppositely faced to the horizontal shaft 41. A control lever 3 with an engaging piece 31 engaged from the lower side of the horizontal shaft 41 is supported movably so as to be able to hold the horizontal shaft 41 between the box body 1 and the rib 21. An elastic means 35 urging elastic force in the direction that the engaging piece 31 is retained to the horizontal shaft 41 is set up on the control lever 3. An abutting section 36 formed on the other of opposed surfaces at the time of cover closing of the side face of the box body 1 and the control lever 3 is abutted against one of the opposed surfaces during cover closing, the control lever 3 is rotated against the urging force of the elastic means 35 and the engaging piece 31 is separated from the horizontal shaft 41, the abutting is released at the time of the completion of cover closing, and an inclined plane section 5 engaging the engaging piece 31 with the lower section of the horizontal shaft 41 is projected.
