PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent a short circuit between a thermal accumulation layer and a heating resistor by a constitution wherein an electric insulation layer is interposed between the thermal accumulation layer and heating resistor. SOLUTION: A thermal head is so constituted that a band-shaped thermal accumulation layer 2 is coated on an insulation substrate 1 and a plurality of heating resistors 4 are arranged in a line on the thermal accumulation layer 2. The heating resistors 4 are selectively heated by conveying a recording medium on the heating resistors 4, thereby forming a printed image on the recording medium. The thermal accumulation layer 2 is formed from a glass having an electric resistivity of 250-3000μΩcm and a pair of electrodes 7a, 7b are connected to both ends of the thermal accumulation layer 2, respectively. A voltage is applied across the electrodes 7a, 7b so that the thermal accumulation layer 2 is heated.
