PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent corrosion of a heating resistor layer which may occur when a water in the open air is contacted with the heating resistor layer via a defective portion of a protection layer. SOLUTION: There is disclosed a thermal head wherein a heating resistor layer 3 and a pair of conductive layers 4a, 4b are coated on a substrate 1 and they are covered with a protection film 5. An over coat layer 8 consisting of polyparaxylylene is coated on the surface of the protection layer 5. A driver IC is mounted on the substrate 1 with a solder bump therebetween and the over coat layer 8 is extended to the driver IC and the surface of the solder bump, then they are integrally covered with the over coat layer 8.
