PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify a device with which an image is generated and a device with which the image is formed by receiving information used for connection to an external device from the external device and adding the information, in response to the software to the image in a way which can not be identified by human eyes. SOLUTION: Information used for connection with an external device is received from the external device and the received information is added to an image in such a way that it cannot be identified by human eyes. A tracing signal generating section 1 of the image processor composes a model number of a color laser beam printer and an external device identification signal read from an ROM into a tracing signal. The model number stored in the ROM is given to a tracing data conversion section 13, where the model number is converted into tracing data. This image processing unit can generate the tracing pattern by compositing the model information and the model number received from the external device in this way and inconspicuously adds it to an output image.
