NEW ASSOCIATIVE THICKENER FOR AQUEOUS SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an associative thickener composition which is a urethane- urea polymer containing at least two low-molecular weight hydrophobic groups, at least one of which is a terminal. SOLUTION: This polymer can contain one or more internal hydrophobic groups. A terminal hydrophobic group is separated from the polymer chain by a hydrophobic spacer moiety connecting to the polymer chain by urea or urethane linkage. The polymer is produced by reacting an amine containing a hydrophobic diol or alkoxy as a base with a diisocyanate and then reacting the resultant prepolymer with an alkoxylated amine-substituted hydrophobic group.
