PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent leakage of high-pressure gas caused by sliding ends becoming in a dry contact state in stopping by holding lubrication of the sliding end faces of a mechanical seal in driving a compressor compressing the gas containing oil. SOLUTION: A lip seal 4 is arranged in the outer circumferential side of a major seal part S by sliding end faces 31a, 32a of a mating ring 31 in a stationary side and a seal ring 32 in the rotation side. The lip seal 4 is fixed to the seal ring 32 and, when the lip seal 4 is rotated along with the seal ring 32, a spiral groove 41c generating a hydrodynamic pump action toward the major seal part S side is formed in the tip of the sliding lip 41a elastically and slidingly in contact with the sliding end face 31a of the mating ring 31. |
