PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved hard copy apparatus and a method for suppressing a medium in the hard copy apparatus. SOLUTION: A medium driving roller and an independent medium suppressing unit 200 are provided and the medium suppressing unit 200 is equipped with a platen 4 having a printing area prescribed to the upper surface thereof and a vacuum source forming negative pressure for almost flatly holding at least a part of the medium on the printing area. The platen 400 of the medium suppressing unit 200 extends toward the medium driving roller to be partially overlaped with the medium driving roller.
