PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a film almost free from luminescent point foreign matter excellent also in optical characteristics and suitable for use as a polarizing plate protecting film by using specified starting materials and adopting a solution casting method. SOLUTION: The film is produced by the solution casting method using a crushed product obtained by crushing a material based on a lower fatty acid ester of cellulose and produced by the solution casting method and a lower fatty acid ester of cellulose as starting materials. The lower fatty acid ester- based material is preferably crushed with a fixed edge and a rotary edge. The crushing is preferably carried out with the edges after vertical cutting with a vertical cutting blade. The haze value of the film is preferably <=0.5.
