PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for monitoring the run-away of a control unit for an automatic transmission generated in storing the control unit for the automatic transmission in an automatic transmission body. SOLUTION: A run-away monitoring unit 4 for monitoring the run-away of an A/T control unit 3 stored in an automatic transmission 1 body is provided in the outside of the automatic transmission 1 body so that the run-away of the unit 3 arranged in such an environment as exceeding the range of an action guarantee range. When the abnormality of the unit 3 is detected and the supply from a power supply V is cut off by a cut-off circuit 6, the function of the unit 3 is completely stopped and the automatic transmission 1 is prevented from running away. If a breaker is a means for cutting off the power supply, the power can be supplied to the unit 3 again, when the unit 3 is returned to its normal state. When the communication abnormality with the unit 3 is detected by a compensation circuit 7 and the command outputted from the unit 3 is compensated, the automatic transmission does not run away, even if the unit 3 runs away.
