PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink cartridge device capable of detecting whether an attached ink cartridge is a fresh one or not, and an ink jet printer equipped with it. SOLUTION: The ink cartridge device comprising a cartridge holder 34 continuing to a printing head 31 and an ink cartridge 3 freely detachably attached to the cartridge holder 34 is provided with a detecting part 42, which is provided on the cartridge holder 34 and detects the attachment of the ink cartridge 3, a detection target part 51, which is provided on the ink cartridge 3 and detected by the detecting part 42, and a breaking member 45, which is provided on the cartridge holder 34 and breaks the detection target part 51 by an attaching/detaching operation for the ink cartridge 34 after the detection by the detecting part 42 so that the detection target part 51 cannot be detected. |
