PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent image whose edge is clear when the image is formed by using an image carrier provided with a photoisomerization layer on the surface of a substrate. SOLUTION: The image carrier 10 obtained by forming the pattern-like photoisomerization layers 13 whose wettability is reversibly changed by being irradiated with light on the surface 12 of the substrate 11 whose surface energy is low is used. Then a latent image whose wettability is changed is formed by selectively exposing the surface of the carrier 10 by a latent image forming means 20. By supplying ink to the latent image formed on the carrier 10 from an ink developing means 30, an ink image is formed on the surface of the carrier 10. Then the ink image is transferred on a recording medium 40 by a transfer means 50.
