PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure uniform cell thicknesses and sufficient impact resistance and to realize satisfactory diplay quality in which unevenness is not present in a liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: Stripe shaped electrodes 12 on an electrode substrate 10 and stripe shaped electrodes 22 on an electrode substrate 20 are formed so as to intersect each other and both substrates 10, 20 are stuck with spacers 15 and a liquid crystal layer 31 is formed by filling liquid crystal in between them. Before they are stuck, the spacers 15 are formed on the substrate 10 so that adhesion of top parts of the spacers 15 are performed at areas among adjacent electrodes 22 on the substrate 20. Thus, the spacers 15 are closely formed on an oriented layer 14 at the side of the electrode substrate 10 and, moreover, the top parts of the spacers 15 are closely adhered to an orientation control layer 24 at flat areas among the adjacent electrodes 22 also at the side of the electrode substrate 20.
