It applies to conventional vehicles whose battery 1 has a negative terminal connected to the chassis and a positive terminal connected by means of a cable 3 to a generator/alternator 4 and by means of another cable 5 to a starter motor 6, the invention having means for opening or closing said cables 3 and 5 in the event of violent impact of the vehicle, thus leaving the battery 1 isolated in order to prevent risks of fire. These means consist preferably of: a switch device 12 which makes it possible to supply the starter motor 6 only during starting-up of the vehicle; fuses 14 and 15 interposed between the battery 1 and the generator/alternator 4; and an inertia device 13 whose activation through violent impact generates a short circuit which breaks at least one of said fuses. <IMAGE>
