PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the lowering of filter performance by inserting an interdigital spacer into a valley on the upstream side and a corrugated separator with the amplitude of the corrugation gradually decreased toward the tip into a valley on downstream side and partly retreating the front edge of the separator on the valley-bottom side by a notch. SOLUTION: A filter medium 2 is folded in zigzags to alternately form a V-shaped valley, and a set of plural interdigital spacers are inserted in the valley on the upstream side at intervals. The interdigital spacer is formed by providing many teeth of a comb at one side edge of a series of slender bridges with the same formation pitch as the valleys. A corrugated separator 4 is inserted into the V-shaped valleys on the downstream side one by one. The amplitude of the corrugation of the separator 4 is gradually decreased from the rear end toward the front end so that the separator is fitted into the V shape of the valley, the filter medium 2 is supported by the ridge lines of the peaks and valleys of the corrugations to keep the pitch of the valleys. The front edge placed on the bottom side of the valley is partly retreated by a notch 7 provided at the front end of the separator 4.
