PURPOSE: A variable device of a primary pulley of a vehicle is provided to improve the operation performance by composing a control piece compact and also the assembling and repairing performance and to make small the whole volume of a continuously variable transmission. CONSTITUTION: A compact continuously variable transmission is composed of a control piece(50) consisting of a DC motor(31) which is a driving piece controlling the movement of a variable pulley(25) of a primary pulley(21) and a variable gear(34) moving the variable pulley width wise by receiving the driving power of the DC motor. Chain gears(55,56) are fixed on a shaft(31') of the DC motor and on a variable gear shaft(34') fixing the variable gear combined to a slide(35) fixed a case(11) at rear of an input shaft(15). A chain(57) connects the upper parts of the chain gears so that the variable gear is operated without passing through an additional power delivery medium. Herein, the chain gears and the chain is a pulley, a timing pulley, a belt or a timing belt.
