PURPOSE: A video phone capable of sensing an occurrence of an abnormal condition and a method for checking a security using a video phone are provided to enable a user to rapidly deal with an abnormal condition by enabling a video phone to notify the user or a third person who can take a measure that the abnormal condition is occurred in case that the video phone checks data inputted through a camera, a microphone and a temperature sensor and judges that the abnormal condition is occurred. CONSTITUTION: A microcomputer(100) controls the whole operation of each unit according to programs stored in a memory(118). The memory(118) stores an operation program of the microcomputer(100) and all sorts of reference data. A camera(104) inputs a color image, and applies the image to a video codec(102). The video codec(102) converts the color image into a digital image. A voice codec(108) restores voice data compressed. A monitor(106) displays the image according to video data restored by the video codec(102). A speaker(112) transmits the voice data. A key pad(116) is equipped with a plurality of keys.
