PURPOSE: A reflective type LCD is provided to obtain a high contrast ratio with a low cost by forming a black paper or a black film instead of a black mask. CONSTITUTION: A polarizer(34) and a color filter layer(33) is formed on a second substrate(22). A thin film transistor(30) is formed on a first substrate(21) and has a gate electrode(26), a gate insulating film(27), a semiconductor(28), a source electrode(25), and a drain electrode(29). A protecting film(31b) is formed on the thin film transistor(30). An irregular layer(31a) is formed on the gate insulating film(27) of a pixel region. A pixel electrode(32) is connected to the drain electrode(27) and is made of a conductive reflecting material. A liquid crystal layer(37) is formed between the first substrate(21) and the second substrate(22). A black paper(35) is formed to a rear surface of the first substrate(21).
