[Also in Group XXII] In an assembly, parts are clamped together, are subjected to alternating stresses and are protected against fretting by having one of the fitting surfaces nitrided and the other fitting surface hardened and provided with a layer of copper having a thickness of at least 8Á. In an embodiment, a connecting rod 1 has fitting surfaces 4, 4<SP>1</SP> nitrided and a half-bush 5 has fitting surfaces 6, 6<SP>1</SP> hardened and provided with a copper coating 7, preferably galvanically applied. The fitting surfaces may also be coated with solid lubricant such as molybdenum disulphide for example. The Specification states that the copper layer may be provided on the connecting rod or the half-bush, or on both. |
