PURPOSE: An apparatus of driving a hand rail for a moving walk way is provided to remove the heat generation and the irregularity of velocity due to slip phenomenon of the hand rail to enhance the convenience of passengers, and to maintain the constant velocity of the hand rail. CONSTITUTION: The hand rail(10) has a U-shape section, comprises an iron core(72a), rubber(72b) and a piece of cloth(72c), and is moved with a closed loop format and is driven by a hand rail drive pulley(20). The iron core(72a) is embedded in the center of the hand rail and support load. The rubber(72b) surrounds the iron core. A gear strip(12) is attached to the internal cloths(72c) of the hand rail. A gear(22) is formed on outer periphery of the hand rail(10) to correspond to the gear strip(12). The gear strip(12) formed on the cloths(72c) is engaged with the gear(22) of the drive pulley(20).
