PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To divide an image into plural areas adaptively to the pattern of the image by generating a segment by merging a specific area and a fine area included in a retrieval range when the absolute value of the difference between the pixel values of those areas is smaller than a threshold. SOLUTION: A CPU 3 sets the retrieval range which is larger in the number of pixels than a reference area around the reference area and specifies as a reference area a fine area included in the retrieval range. The absolute value of the difference in pixel value between the reference area and fine area is compared with the pixel threshold. The CPU 3, at the time of judging that the absolute value is smaller than the pixel threshold, judges that the reference area (segment) and the fine area have nearly the same pixel pattern and merges the reference area and fine area with each other. When the area of the segment is not smaller than a minimum area value, the generated segment is recognized as a segment constituting the image. |
