PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for monitoring and recording a motion adaptation using a supervisory camera is provided to record an image monitored by adapting to a motion of a subject. CONSTITUTION: A camera(12) converts an image of a subject into an electric video signal, and outputs the video signal. A video processor(14) converts the video signal outputted from the camera(12) into a digital signal, and outputs the digital signal. A frame memory(16) stores video data outputted from the video processor(14) in the first and the second memory(16a,16b) in turn. A motion detection unit(18) compares the video data respectively stored in the first and the second memory(16a,16b), and detects a motion vector of the subject. A control unit(20) outputs a recording control signal. A recording unit(22) responds to the control signal outputted from the control unit(20), and selects the video signal outputted from the video processor(14).
