[Also in Division B5] A calender, which comprises at least two rolls, the journals 21 of one roll 12 of which are mounted on slides 23 which are slidably mounted on frame 11 along lines substantially parallel to the longitudinal axes of the roll to cross the axis of this roll in relation to the axis of the adjacent roll, has a doctor blade 19, pressed against roll 12, mounted on the frame and having means connected to slide 23 to move the blade in response to the movement of the slide to maintain the axis of the blade parallel to the axis of roll 12. Each end cf the blade is mounted on a bar 34 pivoted to levers 35, 36 which are pivoted at one end to frame 11 and at the other end to slide 23. Cylinder 48 presses the blade against the roll, while cam 55 rotated, between fingers 56 depending from blade 19, by motor 53, reciprocates the blade axially of the roll. A drive screw 25 moves the slide 23 and the slight consequential pivoting of journal 21 with respect to slide 23 is permitted by bearings 22 and/or by pivot pin 26 between journal box 14 and slide 23.
