PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image reader constituted so that the quantity of light emitted from plural illumination means can be always equally corrected in the image reader having the plural illumination means. SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with at least two illumination means 2a and 2b illuminating the image of an original 1, a detection means 7 detecting the quantity of light emitted from the illumination means 2a and 2b and a light control means 8 correcting the quantity of light emitted from the illumination means 2a and 2b according to the detected value of the detection means 7. Then, the light control means 8 is constituted so that the quantity of light emitted from the illumination means 2a and 2b are independently detected by the detection means 7 and independently corrected according to the respective detected values.
