PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a mechanism for carrying and pressing means to preclude the possibility of mechanical damage such as abrasion even when a strees is applied repeatedly when pressing an IC. SOLUTION: This IC handler has a first moving mechanism 30 for moving, in parallel to a working face 32, bodies 60a, 60b within a region C including an upper region of a socket 16 in an upper side of the working face 32 arranged with the socket 16, second moving mechanisms 48a, 48b attached to the moving bodies 60a, 60b to move an IC holding means 50 orthogonally to the working face 32, and a carrying pressing means 58 for storing an IC 52 into the socket 16 and pressing it. The first moving mechanism 30 is composed of a plane motor having a platen 62 provided in an upper side of the working face 32 to be in parallel to the working face 32 and having platen dots 62a in its lower face, and having movers as the moving bodies 60a, 60b facing the lower face of the platen 62 with a gap inbetween.
