PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a back pressure chamber having a large area in a continuously annular shape while avoiding restriction with a rotation preventing mechanism in the case that the back pressure chamber is formed on a side plate in a scroll type compressor for generating thrust to push back a swing scroll against thrusting load. SOLUTION: Seal rings 18, 19 are provided on the back side of the side plate 8a of a swing scroll 8, or on the opposite side of a compression chamber 21, for forming a back pressure chamber 20 annularly ranging thereto, so that thrust capable of offsetting at least part of thrusting load is generated by supplying fluid pressurized by a communication passage 8h from a compression chamber 21 thereto. A rotation preventing mechanism 17, provided on the periphery of the side plate 8a of the swing scroll 8 as shown in the example, may be provided on the inside face of the side plate 8a. The rotation preventing mechanism does not interrupt the back pressure chamber 20 when provided, and so it can have a larger area annularly ranging thereto. Pressurized fluid may be lubricant subjected under discharge pressure.
