PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition which, even under high-humidity conditions, can form a coating film excellent in water resistance and adhesion to the surface of a metal by incorporating a silicon alkoxide with an epoxy resin, an amine for curing the epoxy resin, and a filler. SOLUTION: This composition contains, desirably, 1-10 wt.% silicon alkoxide of the formula: R1nSi(OR)4-n-m(OR7)m; desirably, 35-55 wt.% epoxy resin; such an amount of an amine being a curing agent for the epoxy resin as to correspond to the amount of the epoxy functional groups of the epoxy resin; and, desirably, 40-60 wt.% filler. In the formula, R and R' are each a 1-6C alkyl; R1 is R, phenyl, or an imidazole-group-containing organic group (e.g. a group of the formula); n is 0 or 1; and m is 0-4. Desirably, the surface of a metal is pretreated with a mixture of organosilicon compounds of the formulae: R2 Si(OR3)3 and R4Si(OR3)3. In the formula, R2 is a carbonyl-containing organic group; R3 is a lower alkyl; and R4 is an amino-containing organic group.
