PURPOSE: A braking system using a controller area network(CAN) communication and the method thereof reduce the braking distance of a vehicle and improve the durability of a brake system by increasing the braking force of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A braking system comprises wheels(40), wheel speed sensors(50), an ABS(20), a driving portion(30) and an engine controller(10). The ABS(20) improves the braking performance of a vehicle by applying braking pressure to each wheel(40), thereby preventing the spin out of the vehicle. The engine controller(10) applies braking pressures to each wheel(40) after receiving controlling signals from the ABS(20). Thus, the braking distance of the vehicle is shortened and the durability of a brake system is improved.
