PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber equipped with a liquid-operated lockout mechanism for removing reaction generated by a piston rod. SOLUTION: A liquid pressure-operated lockout mechanism acts so as to dump the movement of the piston rod 16 of a shock absorber 10 when the rod 16 moves from a completely extended condition. When the rod 16 moves to a compressed position from the completely extended condition, a flexible check valve 30 is bent so that a fluid can flow passing through the plural passages 34 of the lockout piston 28 of the mechanism. Consequently when the rod 16 moves from the extended condition, pressure on both the sides of the piston 28 can be quickly equalized, thereby removing reaction generated by the rod 16.
