PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promptly mount a shim holder in a shim tray by a method, wherein after a shim is fitted on the shim holder by a press fit and the shim holder is positioned at a surface hole for insertion, an outer periphery of the shim holder is rotated to slide. SOLUTION: In a shim assembly 10, a magnetic pole face 12 of a magnet 16 has a lengthy shaft line 15, and a non-magnetic shim tray 3 is disposed near the magnetic pole face 12. The shim tray 34 has a substantially circular surface hole 40. The surface hole 40 has a shaft line 41 in substantial parallel to the long direction shaft line 15 and an opening 42 to a direction opposite to the magnetic pole face 12. Furthermore, a shim holder 36 has substantially the same outer periphery as that of a part 44 of the surface hole 40, and can be aligned coaxially to a part 46 of the surface hole 40, and can be disposed within the part 46. Furthermore, each outer peripheral region of the shim holder 36 and the part 44 of the surface hole 40 can be shifted through rotation about the shaft line 41. The shim assembly 10 has a shim 38 for fitting on the shim holder 36. The shim 38 can be made drive fit in a hole 62.
