摘要 The structure includes layers of rhenium, rhodium and iridium providing durable polished surface. The optically reflective element is formed on a substrate made of graphite (10) which is polished to achieve the required surface properties. A buffer layer of rhenium (26) is then applied to the polished surface (22) of the graphite. The surface of the rhenium is lightly polished or ground in order to eliminate all irregularities. A layer of iridium (28) is then deposited on the rhenium (26). The iridium (28) is then polished to achieve a mirror surface. Finally rhodium may be applied to the outer surface of the polished iridium, so that the rhodium provides the final exterior reflecting surface. The rhodium is polished to achieve the required optical surface accuracy, according to conventional polishing techniques. Independent claims are included for a method of manufacturing the optical reflector.
