PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat mode image forming element for the manufacture of a planographic printing plate having a wide development latitude, high resolution and improved conveyability. SOLUTION: The heat mode image forming element has a 1st layer containing a polymer soluble in an aqueous alkaline solution on a planographic printing base having a hydrophilic surface and a top layer on the 1st layer side of the base. The top layer is sensitive to IR and impermeable to an alkaline developer. The 1st layer and the top layer may be formed as one layer. The top layer contains a polymer which reduces the coefficient of dynamic friction of the top layer to <0.37.
