PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that reads an image with high precision by raising a temperature at ends of a fluorescent light in a lengthwise direction of its glass tube just after the fluorescent light is lighted so as to prevent production of an infrared ray from the fluorescent light. SOLUTION: A thermal conduction member 101 covers the surface of a glass tube of a fluorescent light 1206 of both ends in the lengthwise direction to the vicinity of respective electrodes of the same ends in the lengthwise direction so as to raise a temperature at the ends of the glass tube of the fluorescent light 1206 in the lengthwise direction in a short time so as to prevent an infrared ray from being produced from the fluorescent light 1206 just after the fluorescent light 1206 is lighted. Thus the image can be read with excellent quality without suffered from the adverse influence of the infrared ray.
