PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time required to read/write information which is stored in a tag. SOLUTION: A reader/writer 3 detects a tag 2 to a read memory capacity information and communication speed information stored in the tag 2. The reader/writer 3 sets the highest communication speed corresponding to the memory capacity information and the communication speed information that are read and instructs change of the communication speed to the tag 2. Then the reader/writer 3 reads the minimum quantity of data required for post- processing from among the data stored in the tag 2 at the highest communication speed and allows a display device 4 to display the data. The reader/writer 3 reads the remaining information stored in the tag 2, while changing the communication speed corresponding to the operation of the user.
