PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a lighting failure caused by an instantaneous power failure and to restrain the increase of the size and the cost of a circuit. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device is provided with a discharge lamp DL, a D.C. power source 1 to obtain D.C. power from the A.C. power of the A.C. power source AC, a lighting circuit 4 composed of switching elements S41, S42, a detection circuit 8 for detecting voltage drop caused by the stop of power feeding from an A.C. power source AC, and a control circuit 7 having a power reducing part 9. When voltage drop is detected by the detection circuit 8, the power reducing part 9 directs the control circuit 7 to perform the on/off control of the switching elements S41, S42 for a predetermined period by the use of a control signal having an on-period shorter than that of a normal time. |
